Chattooga County Schools’ Superintendent Jimmy Lenderman can be found at the Board of Education office, but you are much more likely to catch him out at one of the county schools. Mr. Lenderman has a strong presence at the high school, middle school and each of the elementary schools. He has a specific day of the week that he visits each school.

Every Thursday, Mr. Lenderman can be found at Leroy Massey Elementary visiting all of the classrooms. When the students see him coming, their eyes light up with excitement to see his ‘silly socks’ and tie. Lenderman’s wardrobe accessories aren’t the only things that cause kids to flock to him. Every week he brings a photo of an animal or an interesting place or event to show students at the schools when he visits. Mr. Lenderman calls this his ‘picture of the week’ and he loves to surprise the kids with a new picture and a story to accompany it.

Leroy Massey Teacher Rachel Groce snapped the attached picture of her students gathered around Mr. Lenderman on Thursday at their school. In the photo, Lenderman is showing her students a photo of a deer he spotted on a vacation to Cade’s Cove. The deer’s antlers are covered with velvet so that it looks like a reindeer. Mrs. Groce stated, “Students are always anxious to see his weekly picture as he brings something unique each week. They love to see him coming and they can’t wait to see his socks, his tie, and his ‘picture of the week.’
